The 2010 Craven Plate was a stunning finish as three major contenders battled it out in the final metres of the race.
Purple moved to the top of the betting markets just before jump time as jockey Corey Brown already had two wins under his belt for the day. The five-year-old mare had somewhat of a sluggish start but managed to move up to the front of the field early on. It was a battle between her and second favourite Triple Honour for much of the race with Purple slightly ahead.
C’est La Guerre moved up on the outside. The three horses stayed close with Purple keeping her slight lead with 800m to go.
It was three wide in the final straight with Purple on the inside, Triple Honour, and C’est La Guerre. The latter made a move along the outside to pull slightly ahead of her two rivals in the final metres of the race. In a stunning finish, C’est La Guerre was able to pull ahead for the win by a margin of 1.5 with Purple and Triple Honour close behind.
Results: C’est La Guerre ($10.00), Purple ($2.90), Triple Honour ($2.80)
