2010 Craven Plate Race Announcement & Early Preview

September 1st, 2010

The 2010 Craven Plate is scheduled to take place at the Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday October 2 as part of the exciting Epsom Handicap Day during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

The $125,000 Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) is one of seven Group status races at the meeting, which is headlined by four Group 1 events.

Highlight races on the day offering top markets include the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m), Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

Sure to attract a quality field of weight-for-age stayers, the 2010 Craven Plate will likely attract horses that have come via earlier spring events including the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m), Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and the Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m).

The 2010 Warwick Stakes was held on August 21 and won by Metal Bender ahead of fellow stablemates Triple Honour and Danleigh, while the 2010 Chelmsford Stakes will run at Randwick on September 4 and the 2010 Hill Stakes takes place at Rosehill on September 18.

Chris Waller’s Triple Honour and Melbourne Cup hopeful Landlocked will target the Craven Plate

Already Triple Honour has been announced as a Carven Plate contender following their second place finish in the Warwick Stakes, as has the Anthony Cummings-trained Landlocked who will run in the Craven Plate before heading interstate for a possible run in the 2010 Melbourne Cup.

The Hill Stakes especially should provide punters with an excellent guide for their Craven Plate betting as it is run under the same conditions and is only 100m shorter.
